This website is a collaboration between all the authors (Josephine Maqdissi, Arwin Arwin, Majd Abou Hamad and Mohammed Al-Basir) and Freya Wright-Brough. It has been created as part of Freya’s PhD research.
‘Refugee’ has become such a politicised word in Australia that it can sometimes eclipse the diversity of people who come from refugee backgrounds and reduce unique individuals to a label. We See Each Other is a creative work comprised of four short narratives. Each narrative has been created by a person from a refugee background. We See Each Other aims to construct a space where people can share their unique and diverse creative works.
To be able to tell the narratives that are important to you, and to be listened to, is an experience dear to most of us. Please immerse yourself in any of the four narratives. You can let the authors know that you are listening by clicking the ” ” button at the bottom of each author’s page. Hopefully during this encounter (if only for a moment) you can both escape the reductive labels that normally shadow us all.
